The Pediatric Garden at Clínica Alemana Vitacura is conceived as a therapeutic and playful landscape that supports children’s physical, emotional, and psychological well-being through direct contact with nature. Developed in collaboration with Katherine Heidecker Landscape Architecture, the project integrates architecture and landscape as a unified healing environment.
Grounded in biophilic design principles, the garden incorporates diverse vegetation, seasonal color, and tactile natural materials that stimulate the senses and encourage exploration. Carefully designed light, shade, and the presence of water create calming atmospheres that help reduce stress and support emotional regulation.
Sustainability is central to the proposal, prioritizing low-water-demand plant species, permeable surfaces, and resilient landscape systems adapted to Santiago’s climate. Natural tones and organic forms move away from traditional clinical aesthetics, fostering a welcoming and comforting environment.
Organized as a sequence of accessible paths, resting areas, and interactive spaces, the garden encourages movement, play, and social interaction, reinforcing the idea of a healthy body and mind through landscape and architecture.
